Sprint race season is almost on us. Time to start making your plans - which races are you planning to attend, what races do you want to enter, find a crew to race with, etc. As we approach the two big races this year, the practices will be drilling down into the specifics of what you need to do and know to give you your best outcome and your coaches will be with you all the way. Have a question? Ask us. The athletes who completed their RADAR testing will receive a separate communication about the upcoming VRC Time Trial to be held at BLRC on Sunday, May 8. This will be their opportunity to check in on their progress and help them determine what races they may want to enter and who may make compatible crew mate(s). Barring a pandemic or other world-wide catastrophic event, we will hold the full TT/Matrix next year so don’t forget to turn in your RADAR (erg) results next fall/winter.
The two sprint races are Northwest Masters (Vancouver, WA, June 17-19) and Canadian Masters Nationals (at Delta Deas RC, July 15-17). Both these regattas draw some top flight competitors. To see if you/your crew is competitive, have a look at the gold medal times from the US Masters Nationals (2013-2019) here. Talk to your coaches if you have any questions about races and/or racing.
To help some of our newer rowers, RowingBC recently posted a webinar with some very good information given to you by umpires (whom you will see at upcoming races). View the “What to expect at your first regatta” webinar here. Again - you have questions? Be sure to ask your coaches.
To help ALL MASTERS (old and new), please take a moment to complete this RULES OF RACING (RoR) questionnaire. It has 14 questions on it and should take you less than 5 minutes. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Canadian RCA RoR (2022) and the USRA RoR (2021).
That’s all for now. We look forward to coaching you through the upcoming season.
