The Time Trial (TT) at Burnaby Lake for the Masters rowers will occur from 2:30pm to approximately 5-6pm on March 17, depending on the number of people that sign up.
At the meeting held at 7pm on Thursday, March 1 in the Trophy Bar, we explained that we will be timing rowers in singles (1x) and, for rowers who are only ever going to sweep, in pairs (2-). Only new rowers (or rowers unable to row a 1x) will be timed in a 2x with Coach Jessica setting the boats. Each rower will do 3 x 1,000M TT's. It is set up so that these TT's will be done consecutively which means you will row up to the start, have a running start, row to the end and then row back to the start for your second (third). All times will be recorded by the coach and will give us much information to help you in your training.
All Masters rowers are encouraged to participate and take advantage of this opportunity to row on calm water in a small boat. These times will set the bar for you for next year and assist your coaches in designing the May camp where we will be trying out crew boats. This TT will also be compared to next year's TT times to see how and where the athletes have improved and where to focus on training needs occur to make us healthier/faster.
There will be a nominal $20 charge for this camp to provide for gas, donation to BLRC and the use of safety boats and this fee will be charged to your VRC account. Further details on boat loading, etc. will come out in a future email from our adept, talented and gracious Regatta Committee.
Again, all rowers should be in 1x's except for those people who are solely rowing sweep - never intending to scull. The exception to this, as noted above, are rowers who feel it would be impossible to row a single and stay upright. This camp is only intended to get your time in the smallest boat possible, no matter what the size of your intended boats for racing may be. We are bringing the Inspire/Coast Salish for rowers who aren't used to the racing singles.
On the form (see google doc link below), please indicate your full name, email address, which program, boat size and type, and your blade preference. Please sign up by 5pm, Friday, March 9 so that your coaches and Regatta Committee has time to make all the arrangements.
