We are looking forward to our first (head) races and (fingers crossed) our winter land training as we lose our light for weekday rowing. I'm also looking forward to next year's sprint season, which has the potential to be amazing. To help you gauge your progress and to give you some numbers to work toward, I've compiled US Masters winning times since 2013 here. Keeping in mind that wind, current, and heat all factor into any given times, this spreadsheet allows you to see if you are on track.
Take advantage of the winter to pick up some extra physical workouts that balance your rowing. I personally have had some very good success with our strength and conditioning workouts but you may also find balance through yoga, pilates, stretching. Also, over the winter, cross-country skiing is recommended as an optimal alternative workout. I’ll continue to post workouts to follow to bring us up to race ready in the spring. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.
